Opera in three acts, French Libretto by Carlo Sigismondo Capece after the poem " Orlando Furioso "of Ludovic Ariosoto, Music by Georges Frideric Handel.
Orlando, a great soldier in Charlemagne's army, falls desperately in love with the pagan princess Angelica, who is in turn in love with another man, Medoro. Orlando cannot accept this and he is driven to madness, prevented from causing absolute carnage only by the magician Zoroastro (who eventually restores his sanity). Orlando had never been performed at la Monnaie, although it is generally considered to be one of the best in his vast production. This glorious premier was entrusted to two specialists of this repertoire and habitués of Belgian and International opera stages, the director Pierre Audi and the conductor René Jacobs conducting the Belgian Baroque Orchestra B'Rock of Gent.
