Roland Petit is the creator of over 50 ballets including such masterpieces as "Le Jeune homme et la mort", "Le Loup", "Carmen" et "Notre Dame de Paris". From his beginnings as a pupil at the Paris Opera to becoming an artist who never refused the allure of Hollywood (where he staged several dance films), nor disdained a style of dance once deemed "lowlife", Roland Petit has decided to give his own history of dance: the story of the "nouvelle vague" in French choreography, its roots, its style, its innovation, and its healthy impertinence. Many artists have worked with him: Yves Saint-Laurent and Christian Dior on costumes; Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst and Niki de Saint Phalle on the decors; Georges Simenon, Jacques Prévert and Jean Anouilh for texts; Marcel Landowski, Gabriel Yared and Henri Dutilleux for music; even Jean Vilar, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe or Fred Astaire. The list of his encounters with all those who left their mark on the artistic life of the 20th Century is a long one. Accompanied by a troupe of 6 excellent dancers from around the world, Roland Petit tells us the story of his life and art …A history of dance told through dance !
