Choreography by Jean-Christophe Maillot, Music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky One could think of many different fairy tales to describe La Belle. For, while "Sleeping Beauty", the famous fairy tale by Charles Perrault, serves as a backdrop to this ballet, it remains a work of striking originality and creativity, loosely inspired by the tale which has fascinated so many generations. Interweaving the fantastic and the natural , Jean-Christophe Maillot constantly amazes us throughout this exceptional dance piece. The ballet begins with a young man who falls asleep reading "Sleeping Beauty". In his dream he sees himself as the Prince who is struggling against his mother, the Ogress, as his weak father helplessly looks on. This contrasts with the all-white Kingdom of Beauty's parents who were blessed with their beloved daughter through the intervention of the Lilac Fairy.A world of wonder and imagination which also brings together a prestigious artistic crew, including Philippe Guillotel whose costumes, designed in the form of balloons, are as light as bubbles and inflated with tenderness
