URBAN is a no-holds-barred interpretation of life on the streets Cali, Colombia, where the show’s energy, music and dance act as forceful counterweights to the everyday violence of the working class districts where all the youngsters on the stage grew up. The street, like the circus is a question of balance: daring, risking, falling down, getting up, starting again but always with hope. Except that the life thread in Cali, Colombia is taut to the extreme, to the rhythm of the challenges, confrontation and battles of all kinds, which make up day-to-day existence in the barrio. Circolombia’s young performers portray these moments to us with rare dramatic power by using and abusing their magnificent acrobatic bodies to throw themselves into telling the story of their existence in a joyful frenzy. They do not simply act on stage, they live !…. Eyes riveted to the stars which they end up by reaching up and touching. A show with a new, flamboyant, contagious and totally raw power.
URBAN is a freestyle portrait of a society, incorporating both joy and violence, where dance and music are the safety valves of everyday life. It features the best of the Colombian National circus school Circo Para Todos. Weaving a tapestry of personal stories, of rhythm and groove, this is the soundtrack of life and death itself. A true narrative of the streets of Cali, URBAN is based on the lives of the young cast; telling the world what its like in their reality, through their eyes, ears, and voices. URBAN is a tale of confrontation and redemption, of gangs and individual freedom, of poetics and cruelty. Infused with live reggaeton and volcanic, wild, but perfectly mastered acrobatics – above all it shows that with passion and dedication you really can touch the stars.
