Musical comedy in three acts – opus 105 (1959). Libretto by Vladimir Mass and Mikhail Chervinsky. Orchestra and Chorus of the Opéra National de Lyon.Author of 15 symphonies for orchestra, Dmitri Shostakovich composed lighter works theme music, ballets, operettas. Composed in 1959, “Moscou, Quartier des Cerises” appear among these underestimated pages. London discovered this musical comedy in 1994. Ten years later, Opéra National de Lyon assured the french creation, in a creative staged of Jérôme Deschamps and Macha Makeïeff.
The story takes place in a residential suburb of Moscow, under the era Khrouchtev. Young couples fight against the bureaucracy and the corruption to obtain the keys of an apartment and hope to live in the hapiness promised by the utopia comments- Stalinists. With the sets representing apartments of this period, the casting gathers young singers who sing in russian and have a dialogue in french. Humor, rhythm and irony : guaranteed cheerfulness.
