Songs from the great American Surrounded by the charismatic Stephy Haïk and Maria Laura Baccarini and by eight musicians whose experience goes from classical, contemporary to jazz and afro music, Lambert Wilson delved into the archives of the great american musical theatre catalogue. Featuring classic songs from great American composers, such as Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story, Wonderful Town, and Candide); George Gershwin (The popular jazz standard Summertime from Porgy and Bess), an capella version of My Funny Valentine, from Rodgers and Hart, a poignant Solitary Hotel from Samuel Barber; Lambert Wilson and his musical director Régis Huby looked for new ways to interpret those classics, even selecting some songs of the pope of American melody, Ned Rorem, which happen to perfectly fraternise with Broadway’s standards. Nuit américaine could define itself as the panorama of a new musical, yet everlasting, and absolutely cinematographic, landscape.
