The dreamlike Songe de Médée, with music by Mauro Lanza, danced by the Paris Opera Ballet and freely based on the Greek myth of Medea, explores a woman’s soul, portraying her, paradoxically, as a tender loving mother and a tormented victim who sacrifices everything, including her children, for love.
Le Songe de Médée, is based on the Greek myth of Medea and tells of a woman who will do anything for love. The choreography successfully conveys the struggle that Preljocaj believes is present in all women who are mothers: the difficulty to fulfil the role of both mother and lover. Marie-Agnés Gillot illuminates the stage with her performance, and the unpredictable score reflects the inner conflict Médée feels striving to choose between being a mother and being her husband's mistress. This is not only an absolute must-watch for lovers of all styles of dance, but also great for anyone who doesn't know much about the art form.
